Wisdom is often buried by lack of interest and lack of effort to seek and find it. We react rather than respond. Wisdom requires patience and understanding. It does not come quickly or easily.
We experience our life in our body, with our feelings & perceptions, and act on impulse and self-centeredness. This experience hinders our ability to discover and take up wisdom.
Self-centeredness is the way of the world. It is a what’s-in-it-for-me approach. When we act from this place we act from ignorance.
What is that ignorance?
It is the lack of knowledge and awareness.
The cause of this lack is our selfishness, our competitiveness, our desires to get , have and keep, and our belief that material things of every kind are essential.
The basic complication in this scenario is ignorance of our true nature. We mistakenly believe we are in charge of existence itself.
A simple example is the birth of an infant. We believe we are in charge of birth and death to such a degree that we believe we are the creators of birth & death.
Despite every effort to take charge of birth & death, the truth is that everything comes from the creator which has many names.
Postmodern mankind continues to make believe that we are the creators of life - as though we created everything that is the material world. We, however, need the stuff of the world to bring something into existence - leaving us to consider where does the stuff of the world come from - we forget that we rely on nature as our source of existence. Did mankind create nature?
Nature is the source of authority, not the other way around.
There is a story where a spiritual master was challenged by a scientist. The scientist exclaimed that he could create life.
The spiritual master went along with this and said “OH! OK! Go ahead and create some life.”
The scientist very self-assured replied, “Wonderful. Watch me do it. All I need is a little bit of dirt.”
“OH! NO!” said the spiritual master. “NO. NO. NO. If you need the dirt to create life, tell me where the dirt came from?”
Wisdom rules the day!
For it is with wisdom that we see and understand the nature of this existence. When we understand this temproary existence in a human body we begin to understand life - all life. It requires time, self-study and an openness to explore ourselves. Spiders offer us help with a clear image of how we come into existence.
Spiders build a web by releasing spinnerets from her abdomen. The spider uses the wind to lift the web upward towards an object. Once the spider connects with the object it moves out to build a web. When threatened by danger the spider withdraws the web back into her abdomen.
The spider creates the web from her abdomen and when endangered retrieves the web back into her abdomen. This movement is a clear, simple example of how the spider is a creator. The web comes into existence from the abdomen of the spider and returns to the spider as creator.
Consider existence from this natural example. We come into existence from the unborn, undying, immutable, indescrible Source and return to that Source. Science, although useful as well as destructive is not a natural sample - it does not create life without Nature and it is not the unborn, undying, immutable Source of existence.
Remember: Wisdom is often buried by lack of interest and lack of effort to seek and find it. We react rather than respond. Wisdom requires patience and understanding. It does not come quickly or easily.
Don’t Give Up! Keep Going.
