Love that you are looking for...
What to tell someone when they come to you, hurt.
Begin with yourself. YES! With yourself. The love you need and the love you have to give is within you. We, however, think it is somewhere else, somewhere in a book or in the world or in someone elses mind.
The love you are looking for and the love you can give is within you.
Seek nothing in return.
Instructions for Love
We need some instructions which will help us love ourselves and love others.
We need confidence that the instructions are worth learning and following. You will only know that to be true if and when you practice the instructions. Most of humankind needs to learn love.
First, we must listen. This requires no judgement, no ignorance, no brushing off what is being given.
Once we understand we look and practice giving without reward. We listen, look and understand over and over again.
Love takes time, effort and interest. To love is a skill and we must learn the skill without reliance on feelings.
Love is like art. We start with basic things. We have to learn the methods, utensils, and practice them. We have to be willing to receive instructions and give instructions. We begin with an open heart that is willing to receive instructions.
Encourage yourself. Start small. Let yourself know you are strong enough and able enough to learn how to love.
It requires skills in goodness and peacfulness.
We must be constant in our vigilance or risk being taken captive by the patterns of selfishness that come disguised as wounds, history, psychological mumbo-jumbo, rights and privileges.
Be wary of the numberless costumes that come to deceive.
There is THAT which is beyond compare - beyond all the nonsense of the mind constructions. THAT which is ONE and the main principality of existence, THAT which has no second. Some call it love, others emptiness, or cosmic consciousness - by whatever name it is present even when our selfishness crouches at our door and we greet it with open arms.
What must we turn to - what must we know and practice to protect our wily coyote mind from the play of the road runner who is always ready to lure us into a chase - a chase that always ends in harm. Foolish harm.
We really do look for love in all the wrong places. Instead of counting on the material world and all its apparent hopes and desires, cultivate love, respect, and faith by removing the taints from the mind. Clear the mind of hate, contempt and doubt and find what has always been there. It is sometimes called the water of the heroic spirit, or the heartful sound of generosity, or the peace that goes beyond all understanding.
The right view is to keep the mind on suchness which is an ability to experience one’s life as it is. The basic power of suchness comes when we are able to accept life as it is. But do not try to fool yourself into suchness.
Suchness requires stopping wishes, hopes, and desires for love in and from the apparent world. Our true refuge is suchness, sureness in generosity and love that asks for nothing in return.
It requires a practice that breaks through to the love of suchness everywhere for everything. This love goes beyond the temptations of getting and having the love that is temporary and impermanent.
How do we know?
We know when we are clear minded. When we keep our mind - all of our being- on the Truth which is all around us. When we realize love and emptiness are all around us.
It requires realization that provides the strength to NOT give up. It requires practice that is constant. It requires a realization of the emptiness and suchness of a love that does not change and does not NOT seek reward or credit.
The love you are looking for and the love you can give is within you.
Abandon the ignorance of wanting, hating and delusion.
Don’t give up. Keep going.
Go with the flow the way nature wants to flow – without expectations and without the need to classify or think of fulfilling. There is no end in a circle.
Study where you are headed. Study the journey right now. Right where you are.
