Self-Possessiveness Cuts the Cat
The Trek from Possessiveness to Contemplation. TAKE YOUR TIME; STUDY THIS.
She sits still in contemplation and vows to refrain from any action that creates possessiveness.
How do we do that?
We vow. Yes, that is it. We take up the 16 vows and refrain from any action that leads to going against these 16 vows. We take up the story of “Self-possessiveness Kills the Cat.”
It must begin and end with this vow:
“I vow to accept what comes into my life as my life and take up the practice of relinquishment and unselfish generosity.
We have to literally take up seeing life as it is. It requires discarding all the dreams and wishes that come into the mind. It boils down to giving up the desire for and against. It asks us to accept life as our life without attachment, worry, fear and all the dark-sides of this existence.
Even though everything falls under the law of change we practice magnanimity.
We see the truth of impermanence and dissolve our attachments. It does not mean love is gone. It means to follow the transcendent perfections.
Transcendent Perfections: generosity, morality, patience, diligence, concentration, and wisdom
To love without attachment.
To give without reward.
To refrain from unethical behaviors of stealing, lying, cheating and demeaning others.
To practice equanimiity with everyone.
To give our energy to the practice in order to overcome obstacles.
To attend to every aspect ourselves as best we are able.
To clear the mind and concentrate on the Truth.
To study and understand the wisdom of selflessness, impermanence and the rise and fall of everything.
