Delusion covers, conceals and disguises our true nature.
We believe…that’s our first misery. Believing. We tend to trust what we convince ourselves to be true as though the mind is magic. It is a magic that hides the truth of this worldly, human existence.
We must change belief to knowledge and direct perception. NOT belief.
Little kids believe what they are told. But belief does not make what is told to be true. We must go beyond belief to knowing and experiencing the truth.
Delusion exists in the mind and hides the truth.
When we study our mind and all the mental formations in the mind we begin to see bits and pieces of the ever-present beliefs abour ourselves, others and the world. This delusion ranges from a small misunderstanding to a hefty pile of misunderstandings.
CAUTION: Do not believe anything written here.
What we must be willing to do is to study our mind and all that the mind offers until we give up thinking that our thoughts are sound, true, real, and eternal.
The last word eternal is where we all want to reside. Eternal, however, is not part of this earthly existence. Birth and death are the proof in the pudding. Everything comes into existence, appears for a short while and then disappears.
What is beyond the delusion?
Our true nature. Call it what you will. Our spirit, soul, God, divinity, beloved…
As long as the veil of delusion covers our mind we are lost in confusion. We get caught in belief.
When we know our mind and body are separate from our true nature we are ready to go beyond the delusion.
It requires a sincere commitment to practice. We must be willing to note the delusions and to stop identifying with them.
A dog barks. What often happens in the mind when the dog barks and barks? Frustration. Anger, Irritation? Worry? Desire to STOP the barking.
When we forget the five elements of existence, which most of do forget, we suffer from reactive behavior towards the barking dog. Here’s how it goes:
the body, which is known as form, tenses from the loud noise
the feelings of irritation and desire to stop the noise arise
the mental and physical impulses get together to STOP the barking
the perception of both body and mind creates a plan to get what we want
the human consciousness calculates and comes up with permission to STOP the dog.
Each reaction of body & mind shows us that we need to study each of these skandhas (elelments of human beings) to the degree that the mind lets go, the body remains calm, the feelings are not able to react, impulses do not arise, perceptions become aware of the dog’s need for something, and consciousness prevents grabbing the dog.
Emptiness, which is the basis of wisdom & compassion is what is necessary for the sake of the dog and our own sake.
When we are bugged by anything in the world we become clouded with how we want it to be rather than accepting what is arising, appearing and disappearing.
We need to study the mental formations to the point we realize, what is for the most part, is a mirage. The stuff of what we want in the mind is not real. It is fraught with desires.
Do NOT GET Entangled with Desires.
Desires do not quench yearning. Desires are like small platoons that float into the mind as a camouflage of military enemies to defeat the other. In this case, to STOP the dog from barking.
We humans believe we have the right to get, have, and control other beings for our pleasure. To fulfill our desires.
Let us remember.
DROP DESIRES. DO NOT GET ENTANGLED. DO NO HARM.
Don’t Give Up! Keep Going.
